The varieties of beans are divided into several types: bush, half and curly. Most often in garden beds and farmers' fields you can find bush beans, the height of plants that does not exceed 60-70 cm. Such varieties are very fruitful, endure cold and begin to bear fruit before the others. However, low bushes often become prey to pests, mostly beans threaten slugs, which spoil not only the stems and leaves, but also the pods with fruits.

A worthy alternative to spray beans are curly species of this legume plant. Long creepers, entwining fences, wicker, arbors and trees will become a real decoration of the garden or vegetable garden, and you can gather enough fruits from each bush that is enough for the whole family.

This article is about varieties of curly edible beans, because breeders have deduced many varieties of this crop, the fruits of which have no nutritional value, but play only a decorative role. Whereas beans and pods of edible varieties have the same taste and nutritional qualities as the beans harvested from the undersized bush.

Features and varieties of spray beans

The length of the lashes of bush varieties of beans can reach five meters. These lianas wither fence, let them on the walls of houses, outbuildings, gazebos and pergolas. But it can be limited to ordinary props with a slingshot at the end, the height of such supports should be about two meters.

The peculiarities of the cultivation of bush varieties include:

  1. The need for tying up plants.
  2. The beans love the heat, so it is sown in the ground in late May or early June, when the threat of frost disappears.
  3. The vegetative period of legumes ranges from 60 to 90 days, depending on the variety. Curly beans can be harvested until the autumn frosts, as the fruiting period of this culture is stretched.
  4. The possibility of planting a climbing bush near fruit or garden trees. Such a neighborhood does not harm even the very young trees, because the roots of beans, as you know, release nitrogen into the ground, which most plants need for normal development.
  5. Creating shade with bean bushes.
  6. Tall plants do not like drafts and winds that can break their whips. Therefore, planting curly bushes is necessary in places protected from strong winds.

Depending on the type of beans used in food, varieties of this crop are divided into:

  • asparagus;
  • semi-sugar;
  • cereals.

Asparagus beans are eaten together with the pods. These varieties are also called sugar. The boll of these beans is soft, without rigid parchment partitions between the grains. Harvested beans are not ripe, when the pods are still soft and soft. After full ripening, the beans inside the pod become the same as in the grain varieties, but smaller.

Semi-sugar varieties in their unripe form have tender pods. But it is worthwhile to lose a little of the beans and not to pick up the asparagus in time, as the seed pods will become as tough as the grain varieties. In this case, the beans can be eaten just like regular beans.

Grain varieties are also called shelling because the pods are shelling in order to extract ripe beans from them. Such beans are used in boiled form, and you need to cook the fruit for a long time, at least two hours.
